Staying the Night at the Topock66 Hotel

A hotel next to a river changes how a trip feels. You don't pack the car the moment you wake up. You walk out, get breakfast, look at the water, and decide what the day is going to be. That's the idea behind staying at the Topock66 hotel in Topock, Arizona, right on the Colorado River at Interstate 40 Exit One.

The building and the rooms

The hotel is a three-story resort building, and rooms are on all three floors, each with a balcony. The hotel's website lists every floor at 540 square feet. That's a roomy size for a stop on a highway trip, and it matters when you're traveling with kids or gear.

The bed and guest counts vary by floor. The first floor is listed with 6 beds and room for 6 guests. The second and third floors are each listed with 2 beds and room for 6 guests. If you're traveling with a group, ask which layout fits your party when you book.

In-room details from guests

The hotel's site gives sizes and bed counts. For the small stuff, we'll let guests tell it. Reviewers mention a full fridge, a freezer and a microwave in the room, plus free water. That's useful if you've come off a day on the lake and want to keep drinks cold, or if you're traveling with a cooler and need a place to reload the ice.

One Google reviewer, Pepper Eater, wrote about the service: "Staff at bar and grill were awesome! Food was great! Housekeeping at the hotel brought us a bag of ice with a smile, definitely put this place on your bucket list!"

The pool, the swim-up bar and the stage

The pool is open to hotel guests, and it's the center of the property. There's a swim-up bar, and a stage by the pool where Topock66 puts on live shows. In photos of the pool, you can see the stage backdrop, the TOPOCK letters on the building and a palm tree rising over the deck.

Another reviewer, Judy, called it "one of the top hotels on my list," and added: "Friendly staff and guests. Nice to have Restaurant, bar and gift shop and an open pool for Spring Break." That sums up the setup. Everything you want is on the property, and you can do it in flip-flops.

A pool with a stage can mean live music. If a quiet evening matters more to you than a lively one, mention that when you call to book and ask what's happening during your stay.

Food and drink without getting in the car

The restaurant, bar and Riverstore are all on the same site. Breakfast is served from open until 11am, lunch runs 11am to close, and dinner starts at 4pm. Restaurant hours are Monday to Thursday 8am to 8pm, Friday 8am to 9pm, Saturday 7am to 9pm and Sunday 7am to 8pm.

If you're staying a couple of nights, the specials give you a different dinner each evening. Happy hour runs Sunday through Thursday, with 2.00 off all cocktails and beer and wine. There's also a gift shop for Topock66 merchandise if you want something to take home.

What other travelers say

The hotel listing, Hotel Topock66, holds a 4.5 rating from 33 Google reviews. The restaurant and marina listing holds 4.5 from 2,936. shelley durazo wrote after one night with her family: "Rooms were new, spacious and clean. Thursday night wasn't crowded at all. Definitely recommend a stop if your traveling on i40 and looking for something more fun than a Holiday inn."

Her note about Thursday is worth keeping. If you want the property at its quietest, a weeknight is a safer bet than a holiday weekend. Another visitor, andy zinelis, wrote that the restaurant gets crowded in high season, so book ahead for busy stretches.
